Academic Success For Your Child

Spine Road High school is a Math and Science Focused School. With a proud legacy built on the work both student and teacher alike, we strive to provide every student that enters our grounds the best in both material, teaching and experience. All our teachers are carefully selected and all classes planned according to the national curriculum to give each student the edge they need in all future pursuits and study.

G.E.T Subjects Offered

The G.E.T (General Education and Training) phase is comprised of Grades 8 and 9 and makes up an integral part of the education of all students. Including nine subjects, it is designed to give students a solid foundation in core skills of life such as mathematics and literacy. These nine subjects are:

  • English Home Language
  • Afrikaans Home Language
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Science
  • Social Science (History & Geography)
  • Economic and Management Sciences
  • Creative Arts: Dance, Drama and Music
  • Technology
  • Life Orientation

After Grade 9, students enter the F.E.T (Further Education and Training) phase of their schooling, which further specializes them into specific fields. Their subject pool is based on their performance within their final G.E.T year and the number of subjects they do is also cut down from 9 to 7.

To help bring this forward, we encourage all students to take part in an extra-curricular activity of some sort. While not a requirement, it is highly encouraged to help even out the often heavy academic work.

F.E.T Subjects Offered

Made up of the Grades 10 – 12, the F.E.T phase is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge that they will need should they decide to study further at a university, academy or college. At Spine Road, we have 4 subjects that are compulsory for every student no matter the subject package they choose for their F.E.T phase. They are as follows:

  • English Home Language
  • Afrikaans Home Language
  • Life Orientation
  • Mathematics (Please note: Mathematical Literacy is not offered)

Besides their compulsory subjects, students are allowed three other subjects as well, totalling at 7 subjects. Exemplary students may, at their own discretion, apply to take an 8th subject to supplement their package. Currently, we offer 9 subjects in this vein:

  • Economics
  • Accounting
  • Business Studies
  • Consumer Studies
  • Tourism
  • History
  • Physical Sciences
  • Geography
  • Information Technology (IT)

Offered in pre-planned packages designed to offer everything our students would need in their university pursuits, each package is made in such a way that they correlate towards specific fields of study at universities, with certain subject overlap allowing for them to enter multiple fields based on their decision.
